Malawi School of Government (MSG) is a MIP-1 prioritised Malawi Government public sector reform initiative geared towards building capacity for national development. It was formed through an Act of Parliament No. 33 of 2022 (called the Malawi School of Government Act), which amalgamated the former Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) and the Staff Development Institute (SDI). The School started its operations following on 1st December 2022 following governments announcement of its commencement date

Its mandate speaks to the following MW 2063 enablers: 

The primary mandate of MSG is to develop and deliver human resource development programmes and build the capacity of the public and private sector through providing training, research, consultancy, and advisory services in order to improve service delivery.

Provide training, consultancy, advisory and research services designed to a) inform public policy, b) promote national development, c) promote patriotism, honesty, integrity, hard work, transparency and accountability, in the public service and private sector

Promote continuous learning for persons employed in the public sector and the private sector

Encourage pride and excellence in the public service and foster in managers and other public service employees, a sense of purpose, values and professional work ethic as stipulated in the constitution and other relevant laws and policies

Facilitate the establishment of professional networks and think tanks to develop and nurture leadership in the public service and private sector

Develop linkages and collaboration with institutions of higher learning, professional organizations, private sector, schools of government relevant stakeholders and other similar institutions across the world

Conduct mandatory induction, refresher and promotional courses for persons employed in the public service

Conduct demand-driven specialized training determined necessary for the delivery of the mandate of any ministry, department, or government agency

Promote public awareness of issues related to public sector management, public administration and the role and functions of Government

Monitor, evaluate and communicate the impact of strengthened education and training programmes for national leadership and management
